Description

Methamphetamine use is a paramount issue throughout the United States. In Oregon, “Meth-addicted” parents have been the biggest drug problem in their child welfare system for the last 10-12 years, and ranks in the top ten of states’ methamphetamine addiction rates. Texas has also seen the irreparable damage elicited by this drug. By 2006, the Texas State Legislature enacted the Child Endangerment Initiative, making an effort at combating the effects. According to Mr. Jay Wurscher, renowned substance abuse expert, “the problem is here to stay and may get worse before it gets better.”

Mr. Jay Wurscher, Oregon’s Child Welfare Alcohol and Drug Service Coordinator, will present an overview of methamphetamine use and the impact it has on the individual, families, neighborhoods/communities, and systems, including child welfare, legal, educational, and health care. He will also focus on innovations in treatment and intervention, as well as the ethical challenges we face as practitioners.

Enrollment is limited. The early bird registration fee is $45. After March 28, 2008 the fee will increase to $55. There is a $15 registration fee for full-time undergraduate and graduate students, after March 28, 2008 the fee will increase to $25. You must be prepared to show proof of full-time registration status at registration check-in.
