The Talented Mr. Ripley, by Patricia Highsmith Tom Ripley is hired by a wealthy businessman to go to Italy and bring back the man’s prodigal son. But Ripley becomes very fond of Dickie Greenleaf, and wants to be like him -- exactly like him. Utterly without remorse, Ripley kills Greenleaf and assumes his identity. In this novel, the author is able to enter the mind of a sociopath and view the world through his disturbingly amoral eyes.
