The Romantic paintings of J.M.W. Turner and the poems of William Wordsworth still exert their powerful influence on our contemporary culture. In conjunction with the J.M.W. Turner exhibition (on view at DMA February 10 - May 18), The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture and the Dallas Museum of Art announce two programs, February 13 and April 30, entitled “Of Aspect More Sublime: The Appeal of Romantic Art and Poetry.” Both programs will present the art and poetry of the Romantics, focusing on Turner and Wordsworth, and their integral relationship to each other.
The February 13 program features Dr. Willard Spiegelman, Hughes Professor of English at SMU, and Dr. Dorothy Kosinski, Senior Curator of Painting and Sculpture and Barbara Thomas Lemmon Curator of European Art at DMA. For the April 30 program, Dr. Spiegelman will be joined by Prof. Mary Vernon, Professor of Drawing and Painting at SMU.
A cocktail reception is scheduled each evening at 6 p.m., and programs are 7-8:30 p.m. Admission per evening is $25 for Members; $35 for Nonmembers; $10 for Teachers. Two-evening package price is $45 for Members; $65 for Nonmembers; $15 for Teachers. To register, call (214) 871-2440, or online.
