Description
The iconic figures of Tonybones have illuminated the dark corners of the urban landscape from Dallas to New York and back for nearly a decade. Over the last several years the artist has transitioned the work from the streets into the gallery. Although no longer in its original context, the work maintains its impact, but with a more refined immediacy. With the paintings the artist is able to explore formal issues and develop the narrative quality of the work. Tonybones' influences are drawn from early childhood drawings, graffiti, hobo art and urban subcultures. The paintings have an exploratory, freewheeling nature about them, where the subjects are often caught up in thought, heartbreak, loss, triumph and the raucous laughter likened to that of a riverboat gambler.
This solo exhibition will be the artist's first with The Public Trust. This exhibition will explore the artist work in a variety of media including, painting, neon, wooden cutouts and the first ever Tonybones print editions.
