The Sons of Herman Hall dates back to the 1910 peroid while the orginazation dates back to 1893, and having had their various orgnizations in Dallas consolidated around 1910, the early German Socities would meet at Turner hall which was located not far from the present Farmers Market today, the Sons was convereted to their present location by C.W.Heppner, who was this bear of a german that lived in West Dallas when it was a farmers community back in the 1880s and on into the 1900s. Mr Heppner would then save people from the various trinty river floods with a number of boats he had tied up near his 3 story boat house and would wear an old spike helment in the process we are told in folklore, by around the 1920s the hall became a family place and the german community began to fade in the 1940s, leaving people like Mr Heppner obscure and lost in time.....thus the Sons of Herman Hall, as I can recall from my 1980s preservation intrest, is still worth the effort to save and preserve... let see if Dallas really cares, until then Alexander Troup Urban Historian.

Alexander, we've been enjoying your historical snippets: Is the Sons Hall in any danger? Seems to be pretty successful as a music venue.

Mike I am sorry I have been out of focus, as for the last month or two and yet, I journey to the Elm and Park area, searching for the next tide on the beach, it is not comming in soon, and so the Sons is in trouble.....And thank you for your concern, how does one walk away from a Rock Abilly evening as I did, so years back, and why should I look back....we are told to survive dont look back, well the Sons is a great peice of history, and I am tired trying to save places like the Sons, my last gig with them is when it all began was in 1983 with The Sinning Tree Man, who lived there, and then some over the last 20 years, even got the Texas German Socity to check into this problem.. and then one day, maybe, the building is gone....So run an add.....Wanted Historian to save building run by old Germans.... now I did read your comment a month ago and I am back with the research,.... until then Alexander Troup, Elm Historian.
