Description
Run time: 88 min. | India | Language: English
When Loins of Punjab sponsors a singing contest in a small New Jersey town, a motley group of would-be stars converge on a hotel with the hope of becoming the next "desi" idol. The contestants include a ruthless philanthropist, a bhangra rapper, a young prodigy with an over-protective family, a reckless actress, a lovelorn businessman, and an entrepreneurial yogi. Backstage intrigues abound as the competitors battle on stage and behind-the-scenes. The stellar cast which includes Shabana Azmi, Ajay Naidu, Ayesha Dharkar and even writer-director Manish Acharya, plays their respective roles with sincerity and deliver genuine laughs without condescending to their often misguided characters. Acharya deftly juggles their stories with a shooting style and tone that resembles American comedies like WAITING FOR GUFFMAN and BEST IN SHOW. The result is a hilarious satire about dreams, ambition and competition.
