Since panning the last performance I saw by the Texas Ballet Theater of Cleopatra, I feel obliged to comment with my applause for the TBT and their presentation of the Nutcracker. While I went in with rather low expectations, I must say that I was sharply and pleasantly surprised.
We attended the evening performance Saturday at Bass Performance Hall. The set design was deliciously layered with bright colors and each prop a perfect fit. One more item squeezed in and it would have been too much but as it is, perfection! The costumes were exquisite and finally the performances by Leticia Oliveira and Andre Silva as the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker Prince were complex and breathtakingly executed.
I was thrilled to see how far this ballet company has come in just a few years and highly recommend this production. I also look forward to attending future TBT productions.
