-Alford begins his first season as head men's basketball coach at the University of New Mexico and his 17th season as head coach in the collegiate ranks.

-Alford recorded a 308-183 collegiate record as a head coach where his teams have qualified for post-season nods in 11 different seasons.

-Alford coached the University of Iowa for four seasons where he collected 78 victories and also helped Missouri State reach 78 victories with a Sweet 16 appearance during the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
