Description
Presented by Dr. Michael Leja, Professor of Art History at the University of Pennsylvania. Winslow Homer was an inventive designer of illustrations for the early pictorial press. Among his designs were many composite images--clusters of pictures joined together through unifying elements such as vines or architectural forms, or sometimes resembling collages. Homer put serious and playful creative energy into this format, and it evidently gave him license to take unusual imaginative leaps and to exercise his visual wit. His works of this type have not gotten much attention, but they have much to tell us about the artistic and social changes entailed in the industrialization of picture production in the mid-19th century, and they also call our attention to distinctive features of Homer's later and better-known paintings.
Event is free but tickets are required by calling 214-768-2698.

Ghostland Observatory Yes, they play here a lot because they are from Austin. No, that doesn't mean you can't see them again. Of course they will be back, but is that any excuse to not check out what some call the best live act this side of I-10? Didn't think so. "image by: Dániel Perlaky" '06 More info
