Marion Froude leaves small town Tennessee and becomes a popular portrait painter. After traveling the world and engaging in various adventures, into her life comes Dickie Kurt, the ardent editor of a magazine hungry to publish her autobiography. The prospect dismays her former lover, stiff and cautious Bunny Nolan, for he wants to be a United States Senator. He and his prospective father in law attempt exercise their influence to kill the story, much to the chagrin of Marion and Dickie.
