Baal Dan Fundraiser
July 30, 2008
Blue Mesa Grill’s owner, Jim Baron lived in India for 6 months almost 30 years ago. That experience touched him for life, so much so, that he and his wife, Liz, decided to help a local charity, Baal Dan, that is focused on helping impoverished children and orphans in India.
Blue Mesa has supported a local charity, “Baal Dan” as part of their Tacos for a Cause program. Each month, $1 of sales from a specially-featured taco are donated to the charity selected. The tacos sold at the Northwest Hwy., Dallas location will fund the Baal Dan project.
Since adding Baal Dan to their Tacos for a Cause program, the Barons have become more involved in supporting this local charity. They are on the Advisory Board and will be hosting a very special fundraiser on July 30 to raise even more money to help children in India.
Jim and Liz Baron, owners of Blue Mesa Grill for over 20 years, have 6 restaurants in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Jim Baron said, “I truly believe that hunger and other basic human needs (shelter, basic health care, and education) are the source of the world’s problems and that we have the power and resources to solve these problems.
“And the way to do it is by our own actions, one action at a time. This is what is so compelling about Baal Dan. Through the actions of one person, hundreds of children have benefited. In addition, I lived in India for about 6 months and am aware of the tremendous number of street children there.”
In Hindi, “Baal” means “Child” and “Dan” means “Donation”. Baal Dan Charities, is a Dallas-based, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charity that helps children in need in India. Based on the simple concept of raising money to help street children, orphans and poor children the charity raises money to support feeding programs, buy supplies for orphanages and sponsor the education of impoverished children through a scholarships. Since 2006, when the charity was founded, more than 2,000 children in India have received aid from Baal Dan.
