Heather Hole, assistant curator, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Considered one of the great early American modernists, Marsden Hartley (1877–1943) traveled the United States in search of a distinctly American aesthetic. Hole will examine the evolution of Hartley’s depictions of the American West and explore the modernist debates about American art and national identity that they reflect.
