Description

“There Will Be Blood,” nominated for eight Academy Awards and winner of this year’s award for Cinematography, will be discussed on Monday, March 3, as part of the “Speaking of Movies” series presented by The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture.

Chris Vognar, movie critic for The Dallas Morning News, is the special guest. The popular series features a discussion of a currently running film led by executive director Dr. Larry Allums, along with guest film critics and professors.

“There Will Be Blood” is a 2007 film directed, written, and produced by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film is inspired by Upton Sinclair’s Oil! novel (1927), and tells the story of the quest for power of Daniel Plainview in Southern California's oil boom of the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Plainview was portrayed in the film by Daniel Day Lewis, who took home the Best Actor Oscar for his performance.
