Joe Ely / Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses
March 5, 2008
Over the course of a career that has spanned four decades, Amarillo-born, Lubbock-bred singer/songwriter Joe Ely has developed a genre-defying style that incorporates elements of rock, country, blues, folk, cajun, Tejano and just about any and every other facet of music imaginable.
His catalog of albums - more than 20 and still counting - is populated with dusty, daunting and downtrodden characters - people who roam bars, highways, back alleys and gravel roads in search of inspiration, romance, faith and salvation. Many of his songs are based on people he's met during his extensive, worldwide travels and tours.
Opening the show will be West Texas native Ryan Bingham and his band The Dead Horses. Last year, the up-and-coming singer/songwriter - who has been compared to the Rolling Stones and the Black Crowes - released Mescalito, his debut for tastemaker alternative-country record label Lost Highway, home to Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson and others.
Since then, the accolades have been rolling in. "Despite being 25, (he) sings like Steve Earle's dad," Rolling Stone raved.
