Ok, attended thanks to free ticks from Pegs so here's my spin:

Arrived at Nasher to be escorted to outside back porch facing the garden. I thought it was a bit too cool for outside but I guess the Nasher didn't want to take any chances with folks getting hammered and bashing the art work. Ha!

A full but yet samller crowd than I expected. Maybe it was supposed to be limited or was it the ticket price?? Huh.

Typical "VIP" Dallas scene: lots of fur, lots of interesting high dollar clothing, slitty little glasses or sunglasses and unique hats. Some touches of red and zebra as is the design right now with a few women rushing spring with whites and pastels. Loved the gentleman sporting the Versace scarf. Nice.

This event should have been called the Show Case of Reds and NOT a true general tasting. With the exception of the scotch and champagne, there were only TWO chards to sample.

I went straight for the champagne. I'm going to give myself away here, but I think in general champagne is ridiculously over priced. I had never sampled Dom or the Le Grande Dame before so this was my chance to compare.

The Dom tastes exactly like the Yellow label Cliquote and the Le Grand Dame was way too corky. Disappointment. I'll stick to my Yellow label and pay way less money than the folks who think they gotta have Dom. Suckers.

Moved on to the two chards but not impressed. Forced to go red at this point.

Sampled the Meritus Cab(TX Hill Country), not there yet but keep trying. Sampled a couple more.... no stand outs. Ended up trying Sonoma Cutrer Pinot which was interesting.

Food? Appetizers? What appetizers??? Oh, you mean the few that came around? Very sparse offering for the number of people. Managed to catch two bites that were admittingly very tasty but.... WTF?

Over all this event IS NOT WORTH $135. Per Ticket!

It should be retitled Posers and Reds. Lots of posing and picture taking. A spotting of a few well known locals. Let's all stand around with our mediocre reds and pretend we know something about wine.

Anyway, I enjoyed myself because I love to people watch and came away knowing that My Yellow label holds true to value. Took my party next door to Stephan Pyles for a long sit down, a chance to warm up and a bottle of Miner.

Cheers!

A good review tt/llm/whoweru. However, you needed to walk around more. By placing yourself in a nice, warm chair in the room at the far end, you would have had food at your beck and call. They came by with everything because the kitchen was back of there.

All of these were very good once we found them: Vanilla Scented Lobster Tempura with Mango Chili Aioli, Pork Belly Slider with Celery Root Slaw, Shallots and Apple Fig BBQ Sauce, Red Snapper Ceviche with Avocado, Oranges, Cilantro and Fried Tortilla, Kobe Beef Tartar Crostini with Candied Garlic, Micro Arugula and Cracked Mustard Aioli. ESPECIALLY the ceviche!

Reds particularly outstanding were: 2004 Beaulieu Vineyards Georges De Latour Private Reserve Cabernet (only wine I saw properly decanted), 2004 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003 Bolla Amarone della Valpolicella, 2005 Château Lascombes Bordeaux (young - really needed air), Cheval des Andes Mendoza, 1999 Dom (I'm a sucker, but not as good as '98 gift we got at Xmas), 2003 K-J STATURE Meritage, 2004 K-J Highland Estates Alisos Hills Syrah 2004, both Stag's Leap "Ne Cede Malis", 2004 Kathryn Hall Cabernet and 2004 Fuqua Reserve Texas Red (Newsome Winery near Love Field). It was outstanding and I bid and won (ridiculously cheap!) a tasting for 12 at the grand tasting silent auction later on. Send applications to me via snail mail... ;-)

Silly mistake having this outside, though. Temps were not conducive to mingling, IMHO.
