Tracy will discuss his installation Global Warming. Tracy Hicks’ installation at Valley House Gallery combines art with science vessels to explore the issue of global warming.
A key element of Hick’s work lies in the creation and interpretation of collections. His global warming installation resembles a fragile curiosity cabinet creating a luminous environment in the center of the gallery. Nearly 50 sculptural objects are placed in the “cabinet” to observe and interpret.
Hicks says, “Collections encourage and inevitably lead to interpretations. I both collect and create collections and then interpret within the collections. Basic concepts of collecting include preservation and fragility, life and death.”
Hicks, a Dallas artist, will open an exhibition at the MAC in May 2008.
