Description
Two famous works by Henry David Thoreau – Civil Disobedience and Walden – will be explored over four Wednesdays on March 5, 12, 19, and 26 at The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture.
Civil Disobedience, published in 1849 and taken to heart by such figures as Gandhi and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., has had a powerful impact on modern life in the West. Likewise, but less politically, Thoreau’s account of going to the New England woods to discover “the essential facts of life” in Walden, continues to resonate with urban readers who sense the possibility of a life – simpler and more natural – that the pace of the city scarcely allows.
