Description

(USA, 2007, 93 mins)

Directed By: Irena Salina

After watching Flow: For Love of Water, you might not ever drink bottled water again. Most likely, that’s exactly how the filmmaker wants it.

Irena Salinas’ wonderfully provocative and eye-opening documentary is a well-considered work that illuminates our relationship with water from many angles. In stories from around the world, the film examines the global water supply not only from the environmental perspective, but also in the context of international big business and human rights. Huge industrial conglomerates fight to privatize water sources in Europe. Poverty-stricken villagers in Africa illegally connect to pipes to provide water to their families. And an author frighteningly outlines the environmental impact created by our ever-increasing dependence on the convenience and cachet of bottled water.

We are mostly made of water—as is the earth on which we live. This cinematic wake-up call brilliantly demonstrates that water—the natural resource we are perhaps most dependent upon—may ultimately be the thing that undoes us if we don’t embark upon a global change of heart and mind.
