Description

The 2008 Fort Worth Opera Festival will include ancillary events along with opera performances. The Festival repertoire includes Peter Eötvös’ opera “Angels in America,” based on Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. A moving and astonishing tale of AIDS during the Reagan years. While it gives us a glimpse of the politics and social environment of the time, the raw humanity – at its best and worst – makes Angles a timeless work of art.

FWOpera is the first major professional opera company in Texas to produce this edgy work. “Angels in America” is an astonishing tale of AIDS during the Reagan years. Produced in conjunction with “More Life: The Art & Science of AIDS.” (Appropriate for mature audiences.)

Purchase tickets online or by calling 817-731-0726.

Redefining the Disfranchised: The Political Art of Nina Allender As we continue to celebrate the 88th Anniversary of Women's Right to Vote, there's a prime opportunity to view influential art from the era. Nina Evans Allender drew political cartoons for The Suffragist from 1914 into the 1920s, transforming stereotypical views of who a suffragist was. Over the years, Allender contributed more than 250 political cartoons to the movement, a number of which are on display at the Women's Museum at Fair Park. More info
