The 45th

The Museum observes the 45th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination with a series of daytime programs of remembrance and education about that tragic event in 1963. Unless indicated, all programs are free with paid admission to the Museum.
November 17, 1 p.m. - In 1963, electrician Bill Newman, his wife, Gayle, and their two young sons were standing near the grassy knoll on Nov. 22. The Newmans describe their experience as the eyewitnesses closest to the presidential limousine during the shooting.
November 18, 11 a.m. - At 1:22 p.m. November 22, 1963, Dallas County Deputy Sheriff Gene Boone discovered the assassin's rifle near the sixth floor staircase of the Texas School Book Depository. Boone, who worked at the Dallas Times Herald before joining the Sheriff's Department, recounts that harrowing weekend 45 years ago.
November 19, 11 a.m. - Retired Dallas Police detective Jim Leavelle talks about the investigation of President Kennedy's assassination and the day he became internationally recognized as the detective handcuffed to Lee Harvey Oswald when Jack Ruby shot the assassination suspect.
November 20, 11 a.m. - Bob Huffaker, Bill Mercer, George Phenix and Wes Wise, veteran Dallas news reporters and authors of When the News Went Live, present their personal accounts of the Kennedy assassination and its aftermath, including how radio and TV news has changed since 1963. A book signing event follows their talk.
November 21, 4 p.m. - John Kelin discusses and signs his book, Praise from a Future Generation: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy and the First Generation Critics of the Warren Report. Kelin gives a history of the early Kennedy assassination conspiracy theorists who did not accept the commission's conclusion. Free.
