The Levee Singers

The group’s leader, Ed Bernet, started The Levee, a small nightclub on Mockingbird Lane (next to another landmark, “Campisi’s”), as a performance venue for his musical group, “The Levee Singers.” During the ten years of the club’s existence, it – and “The Levee Singers” – became one of the most popular attractions in Dallas. The group caught the eye of an L.A. agent and they were featured on national television on shows such as “The Hollywood Palace”, “Hootenanny”, and variety shows hosted by Danny Kaye and Jimmy Dean. The club faded away at the end of the ‘60s, but “The Levee Singers” are still around – still fresh, exciting and – most important of all – fun! And you can see them at the Pocket on January 29.
Ed Bernet, founder of the Club and still leader of the band, performs on tenor banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and drums. Ralph Sanford is on guitar; Ralph Lindsey on bass; and Dick Bernet on piano and plectrum banjo. Together, these fast-fingered performers put on a show that always makes the audience leave smiling. Their repertoire includes western swing, folk music, C&W, rock-a-billy, and even Broadway medleys. Their singalongs make the shyest singer sing, even if it’s just in a whisper. It’s a great evening of musical entertainment.
