Stockhausen: Stimmung
October 12, 2008
On Sunday, October 12, at 7:30 p.m., at Undermain Theatre, Voices of Change Presents features Stimmung, a mesmerizing work by Karlheinz Stockhausen for six amplified vocalists written in 1968. Stockhausen, often considered the father of the musical avant-garde, revolutionized the process of composition itself and profoundly influenced a whole new generation of composers, including the Beatles, Frank Zappa and Miles Davis. Stimmung is a 75-minute work based solely on a B-flat ninth chord that utilizes controlled improvisation, overtones, and chanted magical names and mantras to create a transcendental experience.
