Metal Effects: Manipulations and Finishes on Mild Steel, Copper and Brass

Learn about various treatments to steel, copper and brass to facilitate patinas. Learn faux finishing, rust inhibiting and the proper preparation for painting, polishing and sealing. We will also explore light forging techniques and embossing with stamped lettering and patterns. Instructor will provide sample chemicals used, sources where they can be found and/or made from home and show samples of each technique in finished form. If you have a piece of metal or an art piece, bring it. There will also be small pieces of each metal for experimentation. Wear old clothes, closed toed shoes or boots and bring safety glasses and leather gloves. If you are chemical sensitive, please bring a face mask. Please bring a lunch.
