Rail Life at Mockingbird Station (CANCELED)

Mockingbird Station is hosting an exciting event on Saturday, October 25. In conjunction with DART's Rail Life Tour '08, a day-long promotion offering the public an opportunity to explore urban living around the various stops along DART's light rail lines, the Station will unveil a sustained effort to spotlight and support local artists, designers, musicians, and eco-friendly, grassroots organizations in our own backyard. Mockingbird Station will serve as a check-in hub, so riders can take DART or drive to the Station to start the tour -- and while they're here, learn "green" living tips at our enviro workshop, peruse our community-oriented sidewalk sale, and shop at our homegrown farmers market.

A number of innovative, Metroplex-based organizations such as the Gleaning Network of Texas, Metro Foam Recycling, and Eden's Organic Garden Center will be on hand at Mockingbird Station to provide information and demonstrate how people can be more environmentally-conscious and, in turn, better conservationists in their everyday lives. Adjacent to this workshop, on the open-air Mezzanine in front of the Angelika Film Center & Cafe, the Station will inaugurate our 100% local farmers market with seasonal fruits, vegetables, and natural products from farms and gardens in the Metroplex.

Mockingbird Station also will showcase the work and music of local artists and bands around the property. Retailers simultaneously will host a sidewalk sale of apparel, accessories, and other merchandise made by local designers or with eco-friendly ingredients like organic cotton and recycled materials. In addition, guests can purchase reusable Station bags, the proceeds from which will benefit the Gleaning Network and Friends of the Katy Trail as the latter moves forward with their plans to extend the trail through our property in 2009.
