The show will highlight the upcoming vote before Dallas City Council regarding adopting a living wage for sanitation workers in our city. Forty years ago Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his support to sanitation workers to have a living wage in Memphis, Tennessee. This was the final campaign before his assassination. In Dallas today, our 500+ sanitation workers are still only paid minimum wage.
The installation will be an opportunity to show support for Dallas sanitation workers, the living wage, and Dr. King's dream. Artists are asked to submit one or more creations that speak to this social issue. The use of found, recycled, and garbage materials is encouraged.
