Description
The Dallas Derby Devils will host the 'Governors Cup Tournament', the only all-state competition of its kind on Sunday, September 21, 2008. This annual tradition will feature five Woman’s Flat Track Derby Association represented Texas leagues, the Dallas Derby Devils, Texas Rollergirls, Houston Roller Derby, Assassination City Derby, and Alamo City Derby. Do not miss your chance to see who will go home with the coveted Governors Cup trophy. In addition to the non-stop full-contact female roller derby, the local men's league, the Dallas Deception will open things up with an exhibition bout.
During the Tournament, the Devils will be join forces with the breast cancer charity Breast Impressions by auctioning off plaster casts and works of art of individual skater’s busts. The mission of Breast Impressions is to increase breast cancer awareness and fundraising to support breast cancer education, prevention and treatment. They donate breast-casting kits to women who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, so they can make a memory prior to surgery. Breast Impressions has had many opportunities through speaking engagements, community awareness events, and by publishing a calendar of breast cancer survivors in Oklahoma. Now Breast Impressions is working with leagues of the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby to raise awareness and fundraise for local breast cancer projects in cities across the United States! Always looking for new ways to reach women and men, they welcome invitations to work with churches, civic groups, and sports organizations to help save lives through early detection!
