Lecture: Daoud Corm, Cross Cultural Encounters and the Origins of Lebanese Modern Art
April 2
Dr. Sarah Rogers, Eleanor Tufts Fellows, SMU
Dr. Sarah Rogers examines the career trajectory and oeuvre of Daoud Corm (1852-1930), Beirut's first professional painter, whose artistic journey begins in 1861 when two Italian Jesuit missionaries discover his drawings. This trope of discovery is the first in a series of cross-cultural encounters highlighted in biographies of Corm as formative for the origins of Lebanese art. Free, but tickets are required. Please contact the Meadows School of the Arts Ticket Office at 214.768.2787 to obtain tickets.
