Spring Dance Concert
April 3
, 2009
The Spring Dance Concert features a diverse selection of ballet, contemporary and jazz works by distinguished guest artists and faculty. Featured will be the delightful Holberg Suite, created by Dance Theatre of Harlem’s founder/director Arthur Mitchell. SMU’s performance will honor both Mitchell’s 75th birthday and the 40th anniversary of Dance Theatre of Harlem. Holberg Suite was choreographed by Mitchell in 1971 to enhance the classical eloquence and technical range of the young Dance Theatre of Harlem performers. The ballet, included in George Balanchine’s Complete Stories of the Great Ballets, reveals the charm and vivacity of Edward Grieg’s sparkling score.
