Opening Reception - Tall in the Saddle: Cowgirls, Ranch Women and Rodeo Gals
April 9
Cowboys and cowgirls share a history that is uniquely American. While much attention has been paid to cowboys’ stories, an upcoming exhibit at The Women’s Museum brings to light the extraordinary lives of women in the West. Tall in the Saddle is an exhibition of photographs by nationally photographer and filmmaker Ann P. Meredith. The exhibit includes 75 black and white photographs of women working on the range, roping steers at rodeo and relaxing at home on the land. The images capture the flamboyant character of these pioneering women, and document from an intimate view the personal lives of these “Women of the West”. The women depicted in Tall in the Saddle hail from California, Phoenix, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
