Panel Discussion with Sister Helen Prejean and composer Jake Heggie
The evening's event entitled, "The Arts, Social Change and Human Rights," will be a panel discussion about how art impacts and often leads the way to social change. The panel will feature:
Sister Helen Prejean, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States
Jake Heggie, composer, DEAD MAN WALKING and MOBY-DICK (premiering in 2010)
Jonathan Pell, Director of Artistic Administration, The Dallas Opera
Darren K. Woods, General Director, Fort Worth Opera
And be moderated by: Rick Halperin, Director of the SMU Human Rights Education Program, Board member of Amnesty International USA
The event will also preview two upcoming operas by Jake Heggie that will be presented in the Metroplex in the next year: DEAD MAN WALKING (Fort Worth Opera, opening May 2009) and MOBY-DICK (The Dallas Opera, premiering 2010.) With special musical experts from DEAD MAN WALKING.
The event is FREE. Seating is limited and RSVP required.
