First performed in Rome in 1817, Rossini’s Cinderella is based on the well-known fairy tale. It came right on the heels of his triumphant The Barber of Seville. Written in the short span of three weeks (with help from a collaborator), it contains some of the finest writing for solo voice and ensembles.
