TwiCon 2009 is the premiere unofficial conference for Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight saga! The event will feature a Twilight movie screening, live Twilight inspired band performances, Volturi Masque Ball, opportunities to meet Twilight cast, dozens of breakout sessions, panels, workshops and more, as well as a Vendor Hall where dozens of vendors will be set up for your shopping pleasure. We will also have the Artists’ Alley, where you can display fan made art and goods. For additional information about the program agenda, please go to Programming.

To summarize it for you: the author basically took away any weaknesses that vampires actually had, and then removed most of the elements of danger by making half of them vegetarians. Throw in some teenage angst and barely repressed sexual tension, and you've got tweeners squealing left and right.
Oh, and as always, some nutjobs become convinced that all of it is real.
