Heaven Can Wait
August 2
Comedy/Fantasy by Harry Segall: When professional boxer and private pilot Joe Pendleton’s small plane takes a dive, his soul is prematurely pulled from his body by an over-eager apprentice angel. Mr. Jordan, the chief angel, is forced to correct the error and find Joe a new body. Joe is temporarily placed in the body of Farnsworth, a prosperous and pompous financier about to be bumped off by his treacherous wife. Hijinks ensue as Joe/Farnsworth reunites with his manager and begins training, tries to right Farnsworth’s wrongs, and falls in love with a rival's daughter, all the while avoiding additional attacks from the murderous missus. Mr. Jordan and his assistant struggle to keep Joe in line while trying to find him a suitable permanent corporal home. This play good-naturedly questions love, destiny and free will with 1940’s sincerity and workingman ethics.
