“African Sculpture Safari,” a Children’s Workshop
February 28
Children and their adult partners will explore unique tribal customs and stories from different parts of Africa with acclaimed storyteller and author Toni Simmons and then model a clay sculpture that celebrates their own family traditions.
Simmons has reached audiences from Germany to South Africa to the Bahamas. Her video recording “Stories Alive: African and African-American Folktales” won the Parents’ Choice and Parent Council Awards. She has been designated an American Masterpiece for the 2008–2009 season by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Designed for children ages 6 to 14, Children’s Workshops combine interactive gallery discussions and hands-on activities for children and their parents. The materials fee for the workshop is $15 ($12 for Museum members); there is no charge for parents. Register now for three sessions to receive a special discount rate of $37 ($30 for Kimbell members). Maximum of three children per adult. To register, call 817-332-8451, ext. 297.
