Seeing the Goddess in Motion: A Processional Image of Parvati
January 21
In this free lecture, Owen will focus on the Museum’s 15th-century bronze sculpture of Parvati, one of the most important Hindu deities, to illustrate the mythology and iconography of the goddess and ways the image was worshipped. She will explore the use of the image in religious processions as well as the architectural experience in a South Indian temple complex.
Owen recently participated in the scholar’s panel for the Texas Collects Asia: India and Southeast Asia symposium at the Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas, in April.
