24-Hour Video Race Finalist Screenings

The films are finished, heart rates are back to normal, the crews have caught up on a lost night’s sleep and the finalist videos from the 8th Annual 24-Hour Video Race will be screened Wednesday, June 3 at the Angelika Film Center, sponsored by the Video Association of Dallas.

A total of 89 teams started the Race, 65 finished on time and 12 late teams are screening out of the competition. The others are missing in action, may they rest in peace.

Here is the schedule of the finalist screenings by category:

6:00 p.m. Pixelvision (K-12)
6:45 p.m. Futurevision (College)
7:45 p.m. Auteur (1-2 Team Members)
8:45 p.m. Guerilla (3-5 Team Members)
9:45 p.m. Hollywood (6+ Team Members)

The general public is invited to attend the screenings. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. For information, visit www.24hourvideoracedallas.com or call 214-428-8700 or email videorace@videofest.org.

Scott Doyle, says:

Unfortunately I only saw ~6 entries today and can't make tomorrow's screenings due to recreational obligations, however I'm amped for next Wednesday's finals based on the few previews from tonight.

Easily one of the greatest things discovered on account of PegNews! Spank you...so much.

Scott, I was out there judging (the 8:30 session: Futurevision) Wed. night. Really fun stuff. Amazing what can be put together on such a tight schedule.

Scott Doyle, says:

Will you be judging during the finals as well?

T-Bush, definitely something I think you'd enjoy if you haven't visited.

John Meyer, says:

I was not afforded that honor, Scott - I'm a green recruit in comparison to some of the other judges.

However, Peguser Susan Kandell (who frequently submits film reviews to the site) will be judging in the finals.

I've done the competition for the past five years, and I have a blast every time. Unfortunately, this was actually the only year I didn't place/win (let alone get to the finals, jeesh) but I still had a great time. Judging did seem a bit off, though - the other films I pegged as the 'best' didn't get picked either.

Anyhow, I was in Futurevision for my first year (I did Pixelvision for all 4 years of highschool) and the video race is pretty much a rite of passage now.

Here's my entry for this year, for what it's worth:

John Meyer, says:

Oh, and Ben3308: I voted your excellently-produced film into second place on my scorecard, right behind the one about the pizza guy hitman. (I guess I'm a sucker for action and gratuitous violence, combined with tomato sauce.)

John Meyer, thanks so much, I'm so relieved to hear that! I was in touch with another judge who assumed I'd cheated - not a nice thing to be said about one's film!
