Description
On Saturday June 20 at 9 pm in Dallas’ historic Lakewood Theater, Ricki Derek’s Night-Oh-Cabaret will celebrate its 10 and a half-year mark. The two creators, Ricki Derek and Nick Gibbons, will be doing the best acts from the past 10 years joined by a swinging 7-piece band. Special celebrity guest Dana Snyder from Adult Swim performs in the show and Chris Ryan from 97.1 the Eagle will be the night’s live MC. The Night-OH-Cabaret has been around for over 10 years, making it one of the longest running live comedy/variety shows in Dallas. The show infuses the swanky vibe of the Rat Pack with a bold edgy Saturday Night Live attitude. Ricki Derek hosts this musical variety show that The Dallas Morning News calls, "Vaudeville with a twist."
The two men behind these boozy shenanigans, Ricki Derek and Nick Gibbons, began The Night-OH-Cabaret as a weekly variety show in 1998. The show took place every Thursday night for the first four years and each week the audiences multiplied. In 2003 Nick moved to New York to pursue comedy, but this didn’t stop the show. For the next 6 years, Ricki and Nick continued to collaborate. Nick traveled back to Dallas to put on The Night-OH-Cabaret at least 4 times a year. These shows would come together after several late night phone calls and thousands of angry e-mails. The minute Nick stepped off the plane from New York City and the guys put a few cocktails between them, it was show time.
During this time period, their drive for creating new and different entertainment fueled several other projects. They produced a 45 minute long comedy DVD called the Aqua Rangers, wrote two full length live sketch comedy shows, and managed to perform together in New York City.
Tickets for Ricki Derek’s Night-Oh-Cabaret can be purchased for $20 - $25 at www.ticketmaster.com or through the Lakewood Theater at 214-821-SHOW (7469).
