Lecture: The Archaeology of Language: Etruscan Inscriptions in Context
March 5
, 2009
Dr. Rex Wallace, Chair of the Classics Department, University of Massachusetts at Amherst
The Etruscan language is understood in large part based on the information gained by careful examination of the archaeological contexts in which the inscriptions were recovered. Context provides the keys to unlocking the mystery of the Etruscan language and to determining the function and the purpose of the writings themselves. In this presentation, Dr. Wallace will explore the parameters of this fascinating topic by focusing on illustrative examples of Etruscan writing in their archaeological setting. Free; advanced registration is not required. Please call 214.4677 for more information.
