Dr. Zahi Hawass: Mysteries of Tutankhamun Revealed
March 24
World-renowned archaeologist Zahi Hawass is a real-life Indiana Jones. He currently serves as Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities and Director of Excavations at Giza, Saqqara, and the Bahariya Oasis. Dr. Hawass is responsible for many exciting discoveries, including the Valley of the Golden Mummies and the Tombs of the Pyramid Builders at Giza. He led a team in the examination of King Tut’s mummy through the use of a CT-scan and believes that King Tut was not murdered but might have fallen from a chariot and died from an infection in his leg. At this event, Dr. Hawass will discuss the mysteries of Tutankhamun’s life and death and share new cutting-edge scientific findings about the mummies of fetuses found in Tutankhamun’s tomb.
Dr. Hawass is extremely concerned about the conservation and protection of Egypt’s monuments; he has carried out a major conservation project on the Great Sphinx. His dynamic personality and extensive knowledge have sparked global interest in ancient Egypt. Some of his most popular TV appearances have included Mysteries of the Pyramids, live from Cairo with Omar Sharif, many National Geographic specials as an explorer-in-residence, and documentaries with the BBC, the Discovery Channel, and The Learning Channel.
Dr. Hawass received a Fulbright Fellowship and his Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2005 Time magazine chose him as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People of the year. In 1998 he received the Pride of Egypt Award and the First Class Award for Arts and Sciences from President Mubarak.
“It makes the heart tremble when you open an undiscovered tomb.” —Zahi Hawass
