The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society shows a different kind of pirate. Living and battling on the open sea (the Antarctic Ocean at that) these pirates are not seeking treasure in the normal sense. They are on a mission to save and protect whales on the verge of extinction.
At the Edge of the World follows these seafarers on one of their missions to find Japanese ships that hunt whales under the guise of “research.” Captain Paul Watson, formerly with Greenpeace, leads a crew of international volunteers who often have little experience at sea. Together, they chase after Japanese whaling vessels, embarking on many carefully planned and suspenseful “attacks.”
Dan Stone and his film crew provide a stunning picture of life on the Antarctic Ocean while the Sea Shepherd’s crew put their own lives on the line for the whales. Some may see their tactics as radical or foolish, but no one can deny that saving these beautiful mammals are something worth fighting for.
