“I kind of collect rock stars” is how photographer Robert Knight describes the lifelong passion that put him in front of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton, and also allowed him to take some of the last photos of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
This fascinating look at a man who has been in the right place at the right time more than a few times digs deeper than most rock docs, showing deeply personal moments with Knight’s senile mother, his worry that he’s an old man in a young man’s game, and his interactions with musicians.
The film shines as it shows Knight’s attempts to promote a young local guitarist’s career (Tyler Dow Bryant) by using his influential connections in the industry. He steps out from behind the camera and tries to be an integral part of a process that he’s followed his whole career.
