Africa Day

At the Africa Day educational booths from 13 countries will offer insights into African culture and the 150,000 African-born residents of North Texas. Interactive activities and workshops include

  • Interactive drumming and dance workshops: from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Eritrea and Morocco and more;
  • Wedding ceremony from Sierra Leone;
  • Name writing in Tigrena, Amharic, Arabic, Egyptian Hieroglyphics;
  • Traditional games: balaburo (Eritrea), awale (Ivory Coast) lodo (Sierra Leone), capoeira (martial arts / dance by Africans in the Diaspora), and more;
  • Name ceremony by African tribal elders from Nigeria;
  • Craft workshops: Henna (Sudan, Eritrea, Morocco), jewelry (Ethiopia, Egypt, Nigeria, Sierra Leone), raffia doll making (Sierra Leone), basket making (Ethiopia), weaving (Ghana) and masks (Gambia) and more.
