Fall Dance Concert
November 4
, 2009
Classical ballet, evocative jazz and energetic contemporary works share the stage for the Fall Dance Concert. Featured will be Gerald Arpino’s Birthday Variations, a romantic and nuanced ballet with music by Verdi, which The New York Times praised as a “sparkling showcase of classical dancing.” The program also includes an intimate new work by jazz artist Danny Buraczeski set to Deep Ellum Nights by SMU professor and composer Simon Sargon; a dark and smoky clarinet creates a mood of quiet melancholy for this exploration of memory. Rounding out the concert is Robert Battle’s rousing Battlefield, originally created with the Meadows Dance Ensemble in 2001, and set to a John Mackey score recorded by the Meadows Percussion Ensemble.
Cost $: $13 for adults, $10 for seniors, $7 for students, faculty and staff
