Dallas Videofest 2009 - Eggshelland
November 8
, 2009
60 min. This independently produced feature-length documentary from first-time feature director Christopher Noice, chronicles a year in the life of Ron and Betty Manolio as they prepare their annual Eggshelland display. Known throughout the world, Eggshelland is a unique, inspiring, and downright quirky suburban celebration of Easter, Spring, and life. Begun in 1957 when the Manolios saved a year's worth of eggs to display on their lawn, Eggshelland now makes use of over 40,000 hand-painted, meticulously arranged, real eggshells. For 51 years, Eggshelland has provided a magical experience to generations of Clevelanders, tens of thousands of fans, and children of all ages. As Mr. Manolio says, 'Some people like to put Easter Eggs in their yard, but we go a little further...' But 'Eggshelland' is about more than one family's suburban lawn display. It's a beautiful, funny, strange and poignant story of the never-ending joy of childhood, the inspiring legacy of one man's dream, and the beauty of a life well lived.
