Dallas Black & Queer Film Series
November 15
, 2009
Black Cinematheque Dallas, SDCC & Q-Roc collaborate to present the first Dallas Black & Queer Film Series. Q Ragsdale has a second home at the Cultural Center and is unofficially its resident filmmaker. She attends BCD screenings religiously and expressed her concerns about the lack of consistent offerings that address the black gay and lesbian communities. Never one to just complain, she set out to correct this deficit and with the collaboration of her second home and her film guru Ms. Marilyn Clark, she created this film series. "The Queer Film Series exists to promote awareness and support of black queer films and filmmakers. At our monthly screenings we will view films covering a wide variety of topics ranging from gender identity and social justice to HIV/AIDS and domestic violence." states Ms. Ragsdale. She goes on to explain, "From documentaries to comedies and dramas, the Queer Film Series will keep you enlightened and entertained. And don't leave before the credits roll because at then end of each monthly screening there will be a discussion about the films and the issues they cover." The first films screened will be "Butch Mystique" by Deborah Wilson & "Excuse Me Sir" by Q Ragsdale.
