Otsukimi Traditional Japanese Moon-Viewing Ceremony

Enjoy a Japanese tradition dating back to the Heian period (794—1186 A.D.), when the evening was marked with poetry and music by court aristocrats. The celebration later spread to warriors, townspeople, and farmers, and became a harvest festival.

Shakuhachi—Bamboo flute music by Stan Richardson
Moon Viewing Music—By the Flute Ensemble of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra
Koto Music – by Fumiko Coburn
Introduction to Haiku by Michael Moore—Write poems inspired by the harvest moon
Calligraphy demonstration—Try your hand with a Japanese brush and ink
Tsukimi Dango—Sample special rice dumplings associated with moon viewing in Japan
