Houston Person and the Official Texas Jazz Orchestra
February 26, 2010
Spend a swinging evening with Houston Person and the Official Texas Jazz Orchestra. Person will play the first set, then collaborate with the Orchestra for a few numbers in the second.
As eclectic as he is talented, Person has recorded everything from disco and gospel to pop and R&B, in addition to his trademark, soulful hard bop. After years as producer and house tenor for HighNote Records and touring with the late Etta Jones, Person is now known as a master of popular songs played in a relaxed, highly accessible style.
The Official Texas Jazz Orchestra is comprised of University of North Texas faculty and graduates. Led by Jim Riggs, the musicians in this ensemble have performed with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Ray Charles and more.
