Dirk Nowitzki’s Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game
June 30, 2012
For the 11th year, two baseball teams, each made up of celebrity players and amateurs, will slug it out for nine innings of hard-charging, umpires-umpping, trash-talking, uniform-wearing, base-stealing, home run-hitting, authentic baseball.
Famous faces and local luminaries will include Dirk Nowitzki (forward and MVP of the 2011 NBA world champion Dallas Mavericks), Jason Terry (Dallas Mavericks guard), Delonte West (Dallas Mavericks guard), Brian Cardinal (Dallas Mavericks forward), Mark Cuban (Dallas Mavericks owner), Rick Carlisle (Dallas Mavericks head coach), Ugo Ihemelu (FC Dallas defender), Brek Shea (FC Dallas midfielder), Daryl “Moose” Johnston (former Dallas Cowboys fullback and three-time Super Bowl champion), Roy Williams (former Dallas Cowboys strong safety and OU legend), Geoff Stults (actor of TV series The Finder and movies The Break-up, Wedding Crashers and J. Edgar), Ben Grieve (former major league outfielder), Kevin Mench (former Texas Ranger), Donnie Nelson (Dallas Mavericks president), and more to be named. Note: Roster subject to change.
New this year: Swing with the Stars. Think you got what it takes to out-hit Dirk and the celebrity players? The public will have a chance to swing with the stars during the Celebrity Home Run Derby. To qualify, interested participants must try out by June 22 at HITS400, a new luxury indoor batting cage located in Plano at 4000 Hedgcoxe Rd. Four skilled long ball hitters will be selected to suit up and compete against the celeb players on June 30.
Tickets are on sale now for $7, $9, $13 and $16 at Ticketmaster (800-745-3000 or ticketmaster.com) or at the Dr Pepper Ballpark Box Office during office hours. Will call will open at 10 a.m. June 30. Tickets also will be available at the door.
Proceeds will benefit the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation.
