Four Nights, Four Decades Video Art Series
September 20, 2012
The Power Station will explore the history of video art in the upcoming four-part series “Four Nights, Four Decades," commencing August 30, 2012.
Beginning with films and videos from the 1970s, each screening will explore a different decade in the history of video art, focusing on prominent issues, artists and technologies central to that era. The series will examine the Structuralist films and videos of the 1970s, the role of advertising and television in the 1980s, issues of surveillance and control in the 1990s, and the growth of Middle Eastern video art in the new millennium. Artists to be shown include Owen Land, Paul Sharits, Dara Birnbaum, Michael Smith, Haroun Farocki, Jill Magid, Doron Solomons and Yael Bartana.
To organize this project, The Power Station has partnered with four Dallas area art professionals, each of whom is curating one night in the series. They will speak during the screenings to provide context and historical information about the videos, and be available for a Q&A session following the presentations.
All screenings begin at 7:30pm, on the third floor of The Power Station, located at 3816 Commerce Street, Dallas, TX 75226. Stair access only. Events are free and open to the public.
