Crow Collection After Dark: On the Silk Road and the High Seas

The Silk Road stretched for thousands of miles from eastern China to the Black Sea, linking the great civilizations of East Asia with those of Europe. Hop on this superhighway of shared ideas and head to the Silk Road Lounge and enjoy musical performances from around the world, enjoys tours of the new exhibition, embark on a scavenger hunt, create your own ceramic bowl and learn about the travels and treasures along the Silk Road.

Art Activity: Horsing Around - 6 – 10 PM | Arbor Walk. The Chinese people have long celebrated the power of the horse in their art, their poetry, and their myths. Create and decorate your own trusty steed and prepare for your journey along the Silk Road.

Art Activity: Exploring Clay - 6 – 10 PM | Flora Street. Pinch, slab, and coil are the beginning techniques for working with clay. Experience all three techniques while making clay sculptures inspired by the exhibit On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce.

Art Activity with Quiggly's Clayhouse - 6 – 9 PM | Trammell Crow Center Plaza Balcony. Take a turn on the pottery wheel with artists from Quiggly's Clayhouse. Learn to throw clay as you create your own masterpiece. Available on a first come, first served basis.

Gallery Game: Pots and Personalities - 6 PM – Midnight | Garden Gallery. Introduce yourself to fascinating historical personalities involved in the trade and collection of Chinese ceramics from Kublai Khan to Madame de Pompadour.

Tour of the Exhibition: On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce - 7 PM | Meet in the Front Lobby. Join museum educators for a tour of the new exhibition and discover why Chinese ceramics were such prized commodities, both at home and abroad.

Silk Road Lounge - 7 – 10:30 PM | Grand Gallery. Spice up your night with innovative world music and be transported to Asia, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean with a different artists and performers.

7 PM – World Music with DJ Woodtronic - Experience world music spun by Dallas’s favorite DJ.

8 PM – Meadows World Music Ensemble - Under the direction of Jamal Mohamed, explore music from cultures and continents around the globe. The group combines traditional instruments from Africa, Asia and Latin America with standard western orchestral instruments to create unique interpretations of traditional folk melodies as well as original compositions.

9 PM – World Music with DJ Woodtronic - Relax and begin to calm yourself with an evening of world music and electronic experiences.

Complimentary Asian Beer Tasting - 7 – 11:30 PM | Silk Road Reading Room. Explore the different tastes and flavors in a variety of Asian beers. Supplies limited. Must show proof of age to be served.

Karaoke After Dark - 10:30 – 11:45 PM | Grand Gallery. Join DJ Mark Ridlen for a multi-lingual and multi-media karaoke experience.

Gallery Tour: Rules of Trade in Canton, China - 11 PM | Meet in the Front Lobby. Join museum educators for a tour of the new exhibition, On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce, and discover how trade agreements and restrictions are not a new thing.
